It started with a small pack of kefir grains Joe ordered online after reading about this tangy, fermented milk. Jess wasn't convinced. "Live bugs? In milk?" She said no for weeks. Then one day she tried a glass, and that was that.
Straining the grains every day became our little ritual, something we made time for even after the longest café days.
When Joe rode his motorbike from Bengaluru towards Ladakh, the grains came too: one bottle, three bowls and a strainer, strained every night wherever he stopped. Somewhere in Jammu and Kashmir, he passed them on to a local family, a small treasure left on the road. Back home, Jess kept our batch going, making far more than the two of us could drink.
That's when we wondered: why not share it? Favoured Grain is that same kefir, made in our kitchen with the same care, and bottled for yours.
– Joe & Jess
We ferment, strain and bottle without plastic. Your kefir ferments in glass jars, is strained through stainless steel, and reaches you in a glass bottle. It's how we make it for ourselves, so it's how we make it for you.
Bring back the bottle. Rinse it, dry it and hand it back undamaged with its lid, and we'll give you ₹10 for each one, taken off your next order. Every returned bottle is washed and sanitised before it's used again; chipped ones are recycled.
